The Voices of the Disappeared: Testimony of Family Members
The testimonies gathered in this publication reveal the magnitude of the human pain carried by the relatives of the disappeared, and the marks that absence and inexplicable, unanswered void have left on each family. Each account expresses the relentless struggle of their search, but also, regrettably, the deaf response of a State that has not yet fulfilled its duty to prevent, investigate, punish, and repair violations of fundamental rights. Thus, these testimonies show how the struggle against barbarism was often waged with the State's back turned to the needs of a population that, by virtue of being poor and marginalized, was doubly affected by violence and the ravages of war.
