Omission of Truth: What About Reconciliation? Peru 1980-2000

The book presents the position of the Peruvian Armed Forces and the police regarding the events that occurred during the Peruvian internal armed conflict between 1980 and 2000. This is especially relevant with respect to the crimes committed by members of the Army, the Navy, and the police that were recorded by the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación. In this regard, the authors state in the prologue: "the Asociación de Defensores de la Democracia Contra el Terrorismo (ADDCOT) considers that keeping silent is to endorse the CVR's accusations, which over time could become 'truths,' as has happened in Peru with many historical situations. For ADDCOT this is the beginning of the struggle for the truth that will take shape in the future when historians and other social scientists, in an objective, dispassionate manner removed from current ideological tendencies, establish a truth much closer to the reality of events. The Asociación Defensores de la Democracia Contra el Terrorismo invites all Peruvians to voice their opinions and pronounce themselves on this response. We believe that dialogue and discussion will be fruitful in coming to know the truth."
