Hatun Willakuy: abridged version of the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission: Peru.
Hatun Willakuy reproduces the main ideas and findings of the Report of the Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR). It was prepared by the CVR's Handover Commission, commissioned by the full body of commissioners at their last session on August 31, 2003. All the facts recounted, as well as the assessments presented, are supported by the full report and its annexes. The Quechua phrase Hatun Willakuy can be translated into Spanish as "gran relato" (great account). This title represents a tribute to those who were the principal victims of the violence described here and whose voices made it possible to reconstruct this history. It is indeed a great account: the history of a tragedy long ignored in its most terrible aspects and, at the same time, an exemplary demonstration of the resilience of human dignity in Peru.
