One of the victims of the Barrios Altos massacre is transported to the Lima Morgue.
On Sunday, November 3, 1991, six armed men with their faces covered by balaclavas burst into a courtyard in the Barrios Altos district, in downtown Lima, where a "pollada" or social gathering was being held. Fifteen people — including a nine-year-old boy — were shot and killed. The Grupo Colina, acting under orders from the Servicio de Inteligencia Nacional (SIN), is held responsible for this crime. Four other people were seriously wounded. Investigations into the case were deliberately obstructed by a series of legislative and judicial mechanisms designed to cover up those responsible and prevent them from being prosecuted.
