A woman weeps outside Castro Castro prison

A woman weeps outside Castro Castro prison during the suppression of the Shining Path mutiny carried out in response to Operation "Mudanza Uno," launched on May 9, 1992, with the objective of transferring one hundred women detained for terrorism from that prison to the Chorrillos women's prison. During the events, 42 inmates died. Some were extrajudicially executed after having surrendered. Senior Sendero Luminoso leaders also died during the events, including Hugo Deodato Juárez Cruzatt, Yovanka Pardavé Trujillo, Tito Valle Travesaño, and Elvia Sanabria Pacheco.
