Armed Forces personnel transport the body of a victim of Operation Aries
Armed Forces personnel transport, in Tingo María, Huánuco, the body of a victim of Operation Aries, launched on April 5, 1994, with the intention of eliminating the remnants of Sendero Luminoso operating on the left bank of the Huallaga River. On the 12th of that same month, the Army bombed the communities of Moyuna, Cayumba, and El Salvador in the province of Leoncio Prado, Huánuco. According to local residents' testimonies, some military patrols committed arbitrary executions of unarmed civilians. The Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación maintains that during this operation there were arbitrary detentions, extrajudicial executions, sexual violations, and torture.
