Shining Path graffiti made during the second attack on the Quisuni CAT
Sendero Luminoso graffiti painted during the second attack on the CAT Quisuni. On July 22, 1990, Sendero Luminoso raided the Cooperativa Agraria de Trabajadores Quisuni and murdered 5 people. The graffiti was carried out in protest against CAT Quisuni's entry into the Federación Unitaria de Campesinos de la provincia de Melgar (FUCAM). The process of the internal armed conflict in the northern part of the department of Puno, a predominantly Quechua region, is linked to the crisis of the associative system created by agrarian reform and to the struggle for the democratic restructuring of land ownership. Involved in this conflict were the Partido Comunista del Perú, Sendero Luminoso, the Armed and Police Forces, the Iglesia Sur Andina, peasant organizations, the government, associative enterprises, and political parties.
