Bodies abandoned in the Tingo María cemetery after "Operation Aries"
Bodies left at the Tingo María cemetery following "Operativo Aries," carried out on April 5, 1994, with the intent of eliminating the Sendero Luminoso remnants operating on the left bank of the Huallaga river in Huánuco. On the 12th of the same month, the Army bombed the communities of Moyuna, Cayumba, and El Salvador in the province of Leoncio Prado, Huánuco. According to testimony from locals, some military patrols carried out arbitrary executions of unarmed civilians. The Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación maintains that during this operation there were arbitrary detentions, extrajudicial executions, sexual violations, and torture.
