Funerals of victims of the Barrios Altos massacre
Funerals of the victims of the Barrios Altos massacre. On Sunday, November 3, 1991, six armed men with their faces covered by balaclavas burst into a courtyard in the Barrios Altos district, in downtown Lima, where a "pollada" or social gathering was being held. Fifteen people — including a nine-year-old boy — were riddled with bullets. The Grupo Colina, which operated under the orders of the Servicio de Inteligencia Nacional (SIN), is held responsible for this crime. In addition to those executed, four people were seriously wounded. Investigations into the case were deliberately obstructed by a series of legislative and judicial mechanisms that sought to cover up those responsible and prevent them from being punished.
