First Congress of the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path
In 1988, the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) concluded its First Congress, marking a strategic shift towards incorporating urban areas into its revolutionary activities. The organization aimed to involve various social sectors, including workers, women, and the urban poor, in its struggle. This period saw an increased focus on urban unions and a strategy to undermine the influence of legal leftist organizations, which the PCP-SL labeled as 'revisionists'.
Concluido el Primer Congreso del PCP-SL en 1988, la organización se preparó para el equilibrio estratégico mediante la incorporación del escenario urbano en su guerra popular. El Congreso aprobó una nueva línea de masas que incluiría a obreros, trabajadores, mujeres, jóvenes, intelectuales y masas pobres de las ciudades. Abimael Guzmán Reinoso desarrolló estos puntos en la "Entrevista del siglo", planteando el Frente Revolucionario de Defensa del Pueblo como instrumento político urbano y destacando el rol del proletariado. Con esta estrategia, Sendero Luminoso incrementó su presencia en el ámbito sindical, buscando debilitar la influencia de organizaciones de izquierda legal que consideraba revisionistas.
