Province of Satipo declared in State of Emergency
In 1988, the province of Satipo was declared a State of Emergency due to the intensification of PCP-SL (Shining Path) activities in the region. This measure was taken in the context of the subversive advance in the Central Jungle and the increase of violent actions against native and colonist communities.
In 1988 the province of Satipo was declared in a State of Emergency due to the intensification of subversive activities of the PCP-SL (Shining Path) in the region. The subversive group with the greatest presence in the province of Satipo was (and still is) the PCP-SL Luminoso. This declaration took place in the context of the advance of the Shining Path in the Central Jungle, particularly in the Ene and Tambo valleys. Around 1988, the PCP-SL began a more aggressive campaign of actions in the area, increasing its presence through more regular visits to native communities. Since 1988, PCP-SL made inroads into communities such as Cutivireni, where it indoctrinated the population and recruited young people.
