Massive day of land seizures called by FDCP with clashes and one death
The IV Board of Directors of the FDCP called for a day of mass mobilization to take land and establish communal enterprises. Thousands of community members from all over the department marched towards the land they claimed as their own. The mobilization was concentrated mainly in Melgar, Azángaro and Carabaya. In the area of the SAIS Aricoma, the hardest confrontations took place, with the participation of sinchis, soldiers and feudatories who harassed the demonstrators. Approximately 300 people were detained in the Cayacachi plant. One death occurred: Pedro Laura Ochoque from the community of Muñani. It was the largest rural mobilization that the highlands had seen in decades.
