The Shining Path arrived at the Cotahuarcay communal enterprise and slaughtered 480 alpacas, including calves and pregnant alpacas. The terrorists forced the villagers to load two or three alpacas each, leaving the offal for the condors. They threatened to kill anyone who objected. This attack destroyed the economy of the communal enterprise that had been built with the effort of the population, leaving more than 120 orphaned minors.
