Arrest of Melvi Zacarias marked the beginning of the MRTA debacle at UNCP
Melvi Zacarías Espinoza, Vice President of the Student Federation and militant of Pueblo en Marcha (a legal MRTA organization), was arrested along with other students in January 1987. This arrest marked the beginning of the Pueblo en Marcha debacle in the UNCP, while the PCP-SL began to express itself openly.
