On June 25, 1986, there was a terrorist attack on a train car on its way to Machu Picchu. The attack resulted in the death of 8 passengers and left forty people injured. This attack occurred in a context of intense political violence in Peru, during the same month as the riots in the prisons of Lima and Callao (June 18). The attack on the tourist train was part of a series of violent actions that also included attacks on bank branches and PAP offices in Lima on June 27.
