Deaths in Santa Barbara prison

During the riot in three prisons in Lima and Callao on June 18, 1986, two subversives died in Santa Barbara prison the following day. The government ordered military investigations and the president supported the action of the Armed Forces while demanding sanctions for those responsible.

On June 18, 1986, detainees held for terrorism in three prisons in Lima and Callao (Lurigancho, El Frontón and Santa Bárbara) rioted. In Santa Barbara prison, two subversives died on June 19. The government ordered the Joint Command to have the military justice system carry out the necessary investigations to determine the scope and seriousness of the events on June 21. President Alan Garcia Perez addressed a message to the country on June 24 condemning terrorism and reiterating his support to the Armed Forces for their action against the mutiny. On June 27, the President called for punishment for those responsible, declaring: "Either all those responsible leave or I leave".
