Attack on Huacauta power plant

The PCP-SL attacked the Huacauta power plant in Azángaro in June 1986, marking the beginning of its active incursions against agrarian companies. The company was destroyed and its cattle distributed as part of the Shining Path strategy of leading peasant mobilizations for land through violent methods.

In June 1986, the PCP-SL attacked the Huacauta power plant in the province of Azángaro. This attack marked the beginning of active incursions by Shining Path columns in the area, which sought to lead peasant mobilizations for land. According to Ricardo Vega, it was after the March 1986 restructuring decree that incursions by the PCP-SL against the agricultural companies began to be heard, with the attack on Huacauta being the first in this series. The PCP-SL destroyed the associative enterprise and its cattle were distributed, although several medium-sized landowners also benefited. This action was part of the Shining Path's strategy to convince the peasantry that land is recovered with weapons and not with supreme decrees, using systematic methods of terror.
