Uchuraccay Massacre
In early 1983, the massacre of journalists in Uchuraccay drew significant criticism from political parties in Peru, including the Partido Aprista Peruano (PAP) and leftist groups. The incident highlighted the tensions between the government and political parties over the military's counterinsurgency tactics in Ayacucho. Alan García, a prominent PAP leader, publicly denounced the government's approach, calling for a reorientation of policies to respect human rights.
El 3 de febrero se nombró una Comisión Investigadora para investigar los sucesos de Uchuraccay, conformada por el jurista Abraham Guzmán, el escritor Mario Vargas Llosa y el periodista Mario Castro Arenas. La matanza de Uchuraccay ocasionó una ola de críticas a la gestión del ministro del Interior, Fernando Rincón, provenientes de la oposición y los medios de prensa, así como denuncias de sistemática violación de derechos humanos. En marzo se presentó el Informe de la Comisión Especial que investigó los sucesos.
