Statement by Luis Bedoya Reyes on terrorism

Luis Bedoya Reyes made statements in the newspaper Expreso pointing out that the left of all shades has favored the propagation of terrorism in the country. Bedoya Reyes affirmed that when there has been a need to express a firm opinion on the criminal acts of the PCP-SL, the left has shielded itself behind a supposed "defense of human rights". These statements were made in a context of escalating terrorist violence and political debate on how to confront subversion. Bedoya Reyes' pronouncement was part of the criticism from conservative sectors of the Peruvian political left for its position in the face of Shining Path terrorism.
