PCP-Sendero Luminoso assault on the town of Pomabamba in Vilcabamba, La Convención, on May 17, 1984, as part of the subversive actions in the Apurimac River Valley.

On May 17, 1984, the town of Pomabamba in Vilcabamba, province of La Convención, was attacked by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso. This attack was part of a series of subversive actions in the Apurimac River Valley during that period. Days earlier, on May 3, the town of Villa Virgen in the same area of Vilcabamba had been taken. These attacks occurred in the context of the Shining Path expansion in the valley, before the consolidation of the organized resistance through the Counter-Subversive Civil Defense (DECAS).
