Battle of Molinos
On April 28, 1989, a violent confrontation occurred between the MRTA (Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement) and the Peruvian Army's special forces in Molinos, Jauja, resulting in the death of 58 MRTA members and six soldiers. The clash severely weakened the MRTA's influence in the Central region, leading to the loss of key leaders and a significant blow to their organizational structure. The aftermath saw retaliatory actions by the MRTA, including bombings and targeted assassinations.
El 28 de abril de 1989 ocurrió en Molinos, Jauja, el enfrentamiento entre una patrulla del ejército y un destacamento de militantes del MRTA que se dirigía a tomar la ciudad de Tarma. Este fue el revés más importante que tuvo el MRTA en la región central. Según fuentes oficiales, murieron 63 presuntos subversivos en la llamada "batalla de los Molinos", de los cuales el MRTA reivindica solo a 42. El patrullaje militar implantado con la instalación del ejército en el valle logró esta acción significativa.
