Murder of Julio Orozco Huamani

Julio Orozco Huamani, FECVRA's top leader, was assassinated in August 1983 in the Luisiana hacienda, which served as the main Marine Infantry base. His death occurred in the context of military repression against peasant organizations in the Apurimac River Valley.

Julio Orozco Huamani, top leader of the Peasant Federation of the Apurimac River Valley (FECVRA), was assassinated at the Luisiana hacienda in August 1983. The Luisiana hacienda, which had belonged to former deputy Parodi of Acción Popular, had been converted into a main Marine Infantry base. This assassination occurred in the context of military repression against peasant organizations in the area. The FECVRA was one of the largest and most important social organizations in the entire department of Ayacucho, with more than one hundred bases until 1983, when it was deactivated, trapped between terror and repressive violence, both from the PCP-SL and the Navy.
