On July 21, 1983, Lima suffered the most serious power outage in its history, which allowed the execution of several terrorist attacks. This event took place within the framework of the second wave of the First Military Campaign of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso.

On July 21, 1983, the Peruvian capital suffered the most serious power outage in its history. This blackout allowed the execution of several terrorist attacks in the city. The event occurred in the context of an intense campaign of violence by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso, which had declared its second wave of the I Military Campaign from July to October 1983. Days before, on July 11, there had been a terrorist attack against the central office of Acción Popular, which was condemned by all political sectors of the country.
