Presentation of the Uchuraccay Investigation Commission Report
Presentation of the report of the Special Commission that investigated the massacre of eight journalists in Uchuraccay in January 1983. The report generated political debate and was presented to Congress in September of that year.
In March 1983, the Report of the Special Commission that investigated the events of Uchuraccay was presented. This commission had been appointed on February 3, 1983 to investigate the massacre of eight journalists that occurred on January 26, 1983 in the peasant community of Uchuraccay, province of Huanta, Ayacucho. The report was presented before Congress on September 20, 1983, where politicians from different political parties expressed their support (IU and PAP) or rejection (AP). The presentation of the report generated controversy about the still unclarified circumstances of the murder of the journalists and about the systematic violation of human rights in the area.
