Presentation of the report of the Investigation Commission chaired by Mario Vargas Llosa on the murder of eight journalists in Uchuraccay, pointing the finger of responsibility at the peasants of the community.
The Investigation Commission of the Uchuraccay Events, appointed by President Fernando Belaunde Terry on February 2, 1983 and presided over by writer Mario Vargas Llosa, presented its report one month after its creation. The commission was created to investigate the murder of eight journalists on January 26, 1983 in the community of Uchuraccay. The report pointed out that the Uchuraccay peasants were responsible for the murder of the journalists. This was the first of two investigations into the events, the second being carried out by the judiciary through a criminal process that concluded in 1987.
