Appointment of the Commission of Inquiry into the Uchuraccay Events

On February 2, 1983, President Belaunde Terry appointed the Uchuraccay Events Investigation Commission, chaired by Mario Vargas Llosa, to investigate the murder of eight journalists. The commission concluded a month later that the Uchuraccay peasants were responsible.

President Fernando Belaunde Terry appointed the Investigation Commission of the Uchuraccay Events on February 2, 1983, chaired by writer Mario Vargas Llosa. This commission was created to investigate the murder of eight journalists on January 26, 1983 in the community of Uchuraccay. The commission presented its report a month later, pointing the finger of responsibility at the Uchuraccay peasants. The commission held a community assembly in Uchuraccay on February 11, 1983 to gather testimonies.
