Exhumation of the corpses of the eight journalists murdered in Uchuraccay

Exhumation of the bodies of eight journalists murdered in Uchuraccay on January 26, 1983, carried out on January 30 in the presence of national and international press, parliamentarians and relatives. The images transmitted on television shocked the country.

On Sunday, January 30, 1983, a large group of national and foreign reporters, parliamentarians, church members and relatives of the murdered journalists arrived in Ayacucho in a plane chartered by the newspaper La República to exhume the bodies. The images of the lynched bodies were transmitted on television, causing a sensation of horror hitherto unknown to most Peruvian households. Journalist Luis Morales collected statements from several community members during the exhumation. The exhumation took place just four days after the massacre on January 26, 1983.
