Confirmation of death of journalists in Uchuraccay

On January 29, 1983, around 7:00 p.m., it was officially confirmed in Ayacucho that the eight journalists had died at the hands of the Uchuraccay peasants, following visits by military patrols that confirmed the existence of the graves and recovered the victims' belongings.

On January 29, 1983, around 7:00 p.m., it was officially confirmed that the eight missing journalists had been killed by the peasants of Uchuraccay. This confirmation came after two military patrols visited the community and confirmed the existence of the graves. The first patrol, commanded by officer Ismael Bravo Reid, arrived early on January 29 and found four graves, receiving from the communal authorities a red flag, a telephoto lens, twelve rolls of film and some clothing. The second patrol, commanded by Captain Civil Guard Novato Soto Barreda, arrived that same day and was followed by a helicopter of Major FAP Jorge Ernesto Barboza Salaverry that landed in Uchuraccay around six o'clock in the afternoon to verify the graves. By seven o'clock in the evening of January 29, the seriousness of the events was confirmed in Ayacucho, where the concern of the press correspondents was growing.
