Arrival of second Civil Guard patrol in Uchuraccay

On January 29, 1983, the second patrol of the Civil Guard under the command of Captain Novato Soto Barreda arrived at Uchuraccay around 8:30 a.m., being informed that the first patrol had already departed. That same day, a military helicopter landed in the afternoon to check the graves of the murdered journalists.

The second patrol under the command of Civil Guard Captain Novato Soto Barreda, head of the Counter-Subversive Command of Huanta, arrived in Huaychao on January 28 around midday and spent the night in that community. At dawn on January 29, several Huaychao villagers accompanied the members of this patrol to Uchuraccay, where they arrived around 8:30 am. The peasants informed them that the first patrol had already left, taking the belongings of the eight dead "terrorists" with them. The patrol returned to Huaychao taking the Iquichan detainee Dionisio Huachaca Sulca with them. Around six in the afternoon, a helicopter commanded by FAP Major Jorge Ernesto Barboza Salaverry landed in Uchuraccay to verify the existence of the graves, returning quickly to Huaychao and Ayacucho with the Iquichan detainee.
