Entry of the Armed Forces into emergency areas

Entry of the Armed Forces into emergency zones in 1983, initiating a period of repression and restriction of journalistic activity.

In 1983, the Armed Forces entered the zones that had been declared in a state of emergency, establishing political-military commands as the only real power. After two years of repression, assassinations, extrajudicial executions and torture on both sides, the number of victims between 1982 and 1984 increased notably, most of them civilians. The military restricted journalistic activity, reducing it to succinct and inaccurate press releases.
