First stage of massive and indiscriminate state repression
Massive and indiscriminate repression by law enforcement forces in Ayacucho with thousands of victims
During 1983 and 1984 there was a significant concentration of cases of arbitrary executions, forced disappearances and torture by State agents. This stage was characterized by the application of a strategy of massive and indiscriminate repression, especially in the rural areas of the department of Ayacucho. The members of the forces of order hit a certain profile of the population with the aim of eliminating the militants of the PCP-SL, eliminating suspects, presumed collaborators and in many cases their social and family environment. The year 1984 was the year with the highest number of fatalities caused by State agents.
