Demolition of high voltage tower in Chambará

Alleged subversives dynamited a high tension tower of the interconnection line of the Mantaro Hydroelectric Power Plant in Chambará, Concepción, as part of the first actions of the PCP-SL in the region.

On December 13, 1980, alleged subversives dynamited a high tension tower of the interconnection line of the Mantaro Hydroelectric Power Plant in the district of Chambará, province of Concepción. This attack was part of the first subversive actions of the PCP-SL in the city of Huancayo and the Mantaro valley. The electricity transmission towers that supplied electricity to Lima and a large part of the country from the Mantaro hydroelectric plant, the largest in the country, became a prime target for Shining Path attacks. This type of sabotage would continue to be frequent throughout the internal armed conflict.
