Assault on Huamanga Prison
In March 1982, the PCP-SL launched a significant assault on the prison in Huamanga, Peru. The attack resulted in the escape of numerous prisoners and highlighted the operational capabilities of the PCP-SL, leading to national concern over their growing threat. In the aftermath, a retaliatory act by republican guards led to the extrajudicial killing of several PCP-SL members, sparking controversy and promises of investigation by the Ministry of the Interior.
En los primeros meses de 1982, durante el incremento de la violencia en la región de Huamanga, el PCP-SL ejecutó el asalto a la cárcel de Huamanga el 2 de marzo. El objetivo principal era liberar a un importante sector de militantes que habían sido detenidos en diversas acciones anteriores y cuya presencia era considerada importante para la continuación de las actividades subversivas. Como resultado del asalto, lograron la fuga de 247 detenidos, entre los cuales se encontraban numerosos presos comunes.
