Emergence of Paramilitary Groups in Ayacucho
In 1983, paramilitary groups known as 'montoneros' emerged in Ayacucho, Peru, organized by the Peruvian military to counteract the guerrilla forces of the Shining Path (PCP-SL). These groups rapidly grew in strength and posed a significant threat to the guerrillas, leading to the disappearance of thousands of people and the destabilization of the Shining Path's operations in the region.
A partir de 1983, aparecieron en la región de Ayacucho grupos paramilitares denominados «montoneros», organizados por el ejército bajo el gobierno de Belaúnde. Estos grupos crecieron enormemente en corto tiempo, desapareciendo a miles de personas y despoblando muchos distritos. Su avance masivo sembró caos en las filas del Ejército Guerrillero Popular, aniquilando decenas de comités populares, cientos de combatientes, y provocando el 90 por ciento de deserciones o capturas entre los efectivos senderistas.
