Beginning of the Armed Struggle by PCP-SL
The leadership of the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) evaluated the initial months of their armed struggle during a meeting on 8 August 1980. The party's leader, Abimael Guzmán, expressed enthusiasm over the success of their initial actions, which he claimed had shaken the country and placed the party at the center of the political struggle. This marked the beginning of a violent campaign aimed at overthrowing the existing government and establishing a new societal order.
