El 9 de abril de 2000 se realizaron las elecciones presidenciales en Perú con ocho candidatos principales. Alberto Fujimori Fujimori de Perú 2000 obtuvo 49.9% de los votos, mientras que Alejandro Toledo de Perú Posible alcanzó 40.2%, resultando insuficiente para que Fujimori lograra mayoría absoluta (50% más 1 voto). La asociación civil Transparencia confirmó que habría segunda vuelta, lo que fue posteriormente ratificado por la ONPE el 13 de abril con los resultados oficiales al 97.682% de las mesas escrutadas.
