Disappearance and Human Rights Violations at the Capaya Military Base
On August 28, 1989, Mariano Huyhua Calluchi was detained, tortured, and disappeared by soldiers from the Capaya Military Base. Accused of collaborating with terrorists, despite being appointed as a community delegate by the military, Mariano was taken along with other community members. His family attempted to secure his release by pleading with the soldiers and offering food, but Mariano was never released and ultimately disappeared. His wife, who sought answers, was later subjected to physical and sexual abuse by soldiers, leading to severe personal trauma.
