Assassination of Priests by PCP-SL in Peru
In 1991, members of the Partido Comunista del Perú-Sendero Luminoso (PCP-SL) assassinated several priests, including Polish priests Zbigniew Adan Strzalkowski and Michael Tomaszek, and Italian priest Alessandro Giusseppi Dordi Negroni. These acts were part of a broader campaign of violence initiated by the PCP-SL against the Catholic Church in Peru, which had been ongoing since 1980. The violence targeted various members and institutions of the Church, resulting in numerous deaths and destruction of property.
La Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación declara que los sacerdotes polacos Zbigniew Adan Strzalkowski y Michael Tomaszek, y el sacerdote italiano Alessandro Giusseppi Dordi Negroni fueron asesinados por el PCP-SL el 09 y 25 de agosto de 1991 respectivamente. La violencia política iniciada por el PCP-SL en 1980 afectó también a la Iglesia Católica Peruana, con víctimas como el sacerdote Víctor Acuña Cárdenas en 1987, Teodoro Santos Mejía en 1989, y Reynaldo Sáenz en 1990. El año 1991 registró la mayor cantidad de atentados mortales contra miembros de la iglesia por parte de integrantes del PCP-SL.
