El 6 de mayo de 1992 ocurrió un motín en el penal Miguel Castro Castro. Durante este evento fallecieron varios internos, incluyendo a Sergio Campos Fernández (por shock hipovolémico y heridas múltiples por arma de fuego) y Tito Roger Valle Travesaño (por laceración encefálica craneal con shock hipovolémico) el 6 y 9 de mayo respectivamente. También perdieron la vida Yobanka Pardave Trujillo y Ana Pilar Castillo Villanueva, así como Marcos Ccallacunto Núñez, quien fue reportado como fallecido durante el motín según testimonios de otros internos y reportes policiales.
