Attack on Uchiza Police Station by Sendero Luminoso
On March 27, 1989, the police station in Uchiza was attacked by several hundred members of the terrorist group Sendero Luminoso, resulting in the deaths of ten police officers. The attackers conducted 'popular trials' before killing three officers and looted weapons and various local businesses. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission reported that the attackers violated the human rights of both police officers and civilians.
