Death of Comandante Rafael Gonzales Zegarra
Comandante Rafael Gonzales Zegarra, who was involved in coordinating anti-subversive operations, died in a confrontation with the Sendero Luminoso in Ñuñoa, Puno, in 1989. He was part of a group linked to the GRUDE and worked closely with Agustín Mantilla and Jesús Miguel Ríos Sáenz. His death marked a significant event in the ongoing conflict between government forces and insurgent groups in Peru.
Según testigo reservado Nº 62, el Comandante Rafael Gonzales Zegarra fue jefe del grupo dentro del GRUDE vinculado al Comando, coordinando directamente con Agustín Mantilla y Jesús Miguel Ríos Sáenz operaciones de aniquilamiento selectivo de terroristas u opositores al régimen. Trabajó con el Mayor Marco Puente Llanos, conocido como "Moscón", quien le sucedió en el mando del grupo. El Comandante Gonzales murió en un enfrentamiento con Sendero Luminoso en la localidad de Ñuñoa del departamento de Puno en 1989.
