El Capitán de Corbeta AP Álvaro Artaza Adrianzén fue investigado por homicidio calificado en agravio de 50 personas no identificadas durante su servicio en la zona de emergencia de Ayacucho en agosto de 1984. El Juez Instructor Sustituto de Marina recomendó el sobreseimiento argumentando que no había quedado acreditada la responsabilidad penal de Artaza Adrianzén, quien aseguró nunca haber estado en Pucayacu por estar fuera de su jurisdicción. El 7 de mayo de 1986, el Consejo Supremo de Justicia Militar confirmó el sobreseimiento, a pesar de que durante el proceso solo se tomaron declaraciones limitadas a algunos familiares sin investigar adecuadamente las denuncias sobre detenciones realizadas por efectivos de la Marina.
