Arbitrary Execution of Campesinos in Socos
In November 1983, thirty-two campesinos, including both men and women, were arbitrarily executed in the district of Socos, located near Huamanga in Ayacucho, Peru. The perpetrators were eleven members of the former Guardia Civil stationed at the local police post. Although the judicial system condemned those responsible, the penalties have not been fully enforced, and the victims' families have yet to receive the civil reparations assigned to them.
La Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación determinó que en noviembre de 1983, un total de treinta y dos campesinos, entre hombres y mujeres, del distrito de Socos ubicado a 18 kilómetros de Huamanga en Ayacucho, fueron ejecutados arbitrariamente por once miembros de la ex Guardia Civil destacados en el puesto policial del lugar. Si bien las instancias judiciales condenaron a los responsables, no se ha cumplido con la ejecución de la pena de inhabilitación impuesta. Hasta el momento, los familiares de las víctimas no han recibido la reparación civil que les fue asignada.
