Abuse of Female Inmates by Male Guards at Huamancaca Prison
In 1984, female inmates at the Huamancaca prison in Huancayo were subjected to abusive practices by male police officers. A witness reported that during a search, officers entered the women's pavilion at dawn, forced the inmates into the yard, ordered them to undress, and then to squat with their legs apart. This incident highlights the violation of women's rights and the inappropriate use of male guards in female detention facilities.
El Penal de Huamancaca mantenía una práctica contraria a estándares de las Naciones Unidas: el resguardo de reclusas por personal policial masculino que favorecía violaciones de derechos de las mujeres encarceladas. En 1984, durante una requisa en el pabellón de mujeres, policías ingresaron en horas de madrugada y obligaron a las internas a desnudarse y adoptar posiciones humillantes en el patio.
