Use of Shackles in Prison Transfers
Pilar Coll, a pastoral care agent, testified about the cruel and degrading treatment of prisoners being transferred to hospitals or court proceedings while shackled. The shackles, which bound prisoners' hands and feet with a chain, created a humiliating spectacle reminiscent of scenes from movies about galley convicts. This practice was highlighted during a thematic hearing on July 4, 2002.
Durante los traslados de reclusos al hospital o a diligencias judiciales, se utilizaban esposas infamantes que unían los pies y manos de los internos mediante cadenas. Al arrastrar estas cadenas por las lozas, producían ruido que llamaba la atención de quienes estaban cerca. Según testimonios de las mujeres reclusas, esta práctica las humillaba tremendamente al hacerlas semejantes a los condenados a galeras. Esta práctica fue denunciada como un trato cruel, inhumano y degradante en Audiencia Temática de Inocentes.
