Forced Unions and Sexual Violence by PCP-SL
During the early 1980s, women in Peru were subjected to forced unions by the Shining Path (PCP-SL) under the pretext of revolutionary needs. Women were coerced into relationships with male members of the group, often under threat of violence or death. A young woman from Oronjoy recounted her experience of being forced to commit to a partner at the age of fifteen due to fear of being killed.
En las retiradas organizadas por el PCP-SL, mujeres jóvenes, incluso menores de edad, fueron obligadas a unirse conyugalmente con varones de la organización. Los testimonios revelan que mandos de PCP-SL violaban a las mujeres cuando sus esposos eran enviados a otros lugares, utilizando estas uniones forzadas como mecanismo de control. Esta práctica sistemática de abuso sexual contra las mujeres en las retiradas fue identificada como una causa de desilusión y pérdida de apoyo entre los propios integrantes de la organización.
