Attack on Mayor Johnny Rodríguez in Pachacamac
On 19 September 1992, Mayor Johnny Rodríguez was attacked by presumed members of the Shining Path while investigating land registration in Pachacamac, an area with significant Shining Path presence. Although Rodríguez survived the attack, a local resident named David Velásquez was killed. The incident highlighted the ongoing influence and violence of the Shining Path in the region.
El 19 de septiembre de 1992, el alcalde Johnny Rodríguez se dirigió al sector Pachacamac, donde existía fuerte presencia senderista, para investigar el empadronamiento de terrenos. Su vehículo fue atacado por presuntos miembros de Sendero Luminoso. Aunque el alcalde quedó ileso, el poblador David Velásquez resultó muerto en el atentado. El municipio publicó un comunicado acusando a dos pobladores de Pachacamac de pertenecer a Sendero Luminoso.
