Enfrentamiento entre MRTA y PCP-SL
In 1991, there was a confrontation between the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) and the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL) in the Ponaza valley. The conflict arose when the Shining Path captured four MRTA members, which led to a rescue attempt by the guerrillas. Despite MRTA's attempts to resolve the conflict peacefully, the confrontation culminated in an attack that allowed the emerretistas to dislodge the Senderistas.
El PCP-SL incursionó en zonas controladas por el MRTA generando enfrentamientos por dominio territorial y acceso a pistas de aterrizaje utilizadas por el narcotráfico. En 1991, tras capturar Sendero Luminoso a cuatro miembros del MRTA en el valle del Ponaza, los emerretistas intentaron un arreglo pacífico mediante diálogo, pero fue rechazado. El MRTA atacó coordinadamente con destacamentos del Huallaga Central y Mayo Medio, logrando desalojar al enemigo tras un enfrentamiento que duró todo el día. Posteriormente, el MRTA estableció puestos de control en toda la zona para evitar futuras infiltraciones de Sendero Luminoso.
