Establecimiento del Frente Guerrillero en San Martín
In 1984, the MRTA and the MIR-VR formed an alliance to establish a Guerrilla Front in the department of San Martin, Peru. This front was commanded by a Regional Directorate in charge of developing the political and military struggle, organizing and making the local population aware of the armed struggle. The structure included political, military, logistical, communication, press and propaganda, and economic areas, with the objective of coordinating actions and maintaining the presence of the MRTA in the public memory.
Luego de la alianza entre el MRTA y el MIR-VR, se acordó constituir una Dirección Nacional y abrir un Frente Guerrillero con treinta combatientes de cada organización. Se eligió el departamento de San Martín porque el MIR-VR ya tenía desde 1984 un destacamento subversivo con 35 combatientes y había realizado trabajo político con la población. El FNO estaba comandado por una Dirección Regional cuya misión era desarrollar la lucha política y militar a través de la organización y concientización de la población local. La Dirección Regional poseía una estructura con áreas que abarcaban aspectos político, militar, logístico, de comunicación, prensa y propaganda, y economía, coordinadas por el Comandante General junto con los jefes político, de prensa y logística.
