PCP-SL Attack on Centromín Perú Locomotive
On April 7, 1989, the Shining Path (PCP-SL) dynamited locomotive No. 32 of the Centromín Perú company, halting the transport of minerals from Cerro de Pasco to the Oroya smelter. Following the assassination of Seferino Requis, the military conducted extensive operations in the area, resulting in the death of 'Hernán' and the capture of 'Nelly', both associated with the PCP-SL. These events significantly weakened the PCP-SL's influence in the mining sector and led to a decline in union participation due to fear of reprisals.
El 7 de abril de 1989, el PCP-SL dinamitó la locomotora Nro. 32 de la empresa Centromín Perú, provocando la paralización del traslado de mineral de la unidad de Cerro de Pasco a la fundición de la Oroya. Tras este ataque y el asesinato de Seferino Requis, los militares realizaron exhaustivos operativos en la zona, logrando matar al camarada «Hernán» y capturar a la camarada «Nelly», quienes se refugiaban en pueblos aledaños. Con estas capturas, el PCP-SL perdió notoriamente poder en el sector minero y disminuyó la participación de los obreros en los sindicatos por temor a represalias.
